EMPAT LIMA
Empat Lima are a trio who traverse dreamy psychedelic landscapes to beats and garage racket, to poppy synths and lo-fi screaming. Never getting boring and often inducing different states of minds. Over the 10 years they’ve been together they have participated in 24-hour art installations, played with seminal Indonesian post-punk heroes in rice fields, and inadvertently induced labour with their music. Empat Lima draw upon the inspiration of the great women in music before them, mixing in their own unique style of overlapping melodies and driving dance beats. Their debut LP ‘Cling Clang Clutter’ featured as album of the week simultaneously on 3RRR and 3PBS upon its release in 2018.

In 2014, Empat Lima toured Indonesia, featuring on local radio, performing in festivals and filming a video clip (Nightrider). As part of the tour, we engaged in workshops with the local community of female artists in Bandung, Jakarta, Yogyakarta, East Java and a cooking/performance exchange for the ceramic instrument makers of Jatiwangi. Following on from these workshops, Sooji founded WANITA (Women's Artist's Network Indonesia To Australia)- a network for female artists to establish connections and working collaborations.

Empat Lima recently released their final two tracks before officially retiring in 2024.

PRAISE FOR EMPAT LIMA

“It’s a shimmering mirage, a heatstroke injection into pop that you cannot afford to miss out on. Invest. Believe. Synergy. Empat Lima.” ~ Soundly Sounds
“ ….astounding and perfectly executed free-wheeling pop madness. Diverse, distinct and downright irresistible…. The band is constantly one step ahead of the listener, zigging and zagging and keeping us on edge but never off side. It’s vibrant, colourful and imbued with a verve that is infectious…” Weirdo Wasteland
